The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine A rising star in Bordeaux and a leading light of the Côtes de Bordeaux Francs, Château Puygueraud continues to impress. Part of the Nicolas and Cyrille Thienpont portfolio—also behind the acclaimed Château Pavie-Macquin—this under-the-radar estate is making a strong qualitative leap, and given its pricing, there’s every reason to take notice. Perched on a rocky plateau overlooking the Dordogne Valley and sharing some of the prized limestone soils found in Saint-Émilion’s top crus, Puygueraud is perfectly placed to deliver serious wines with real character. The 2024 vintage is another clear step forward, with Merlot playing the lead. Juicy fruit flavors are layered with floral and licorice notes, while the palate is generous and rounded, carried by freshness and subtle tension that stretches the finish beautifully. This is Bordeaux at its best—precise, expressive, and remarkably well-made. A rising value not to miss, especially at this blessedly good price.
